Feeding Red Eye Tree Frogs

Red eye tree frogs appreciate a variety of insects in their diet, although they prefer smaller sized prey items rather than large ones. They do not hunt during the day, so supply their dusted, gutloaded insects just before lights out; they will take all the commonly supplied feeder insects, as well as more unusual ones such as green banana roaches.

Housing Red Eye Tree Frogs

It is critical to the welfare of your amphibian pet that you provide the correct housing and temperatures required by their individual species.

As an arboreal (tree dwelling) frog that generally inhabits cloudforest regions, red eye treefrogs not only need high humidity but also excellent ventilation. A large upright glass terrarium is most suitable for them, with a minimum of 45 x 45 x 60cm for a pair, although larger is always better. Ensure they have lots of perching branches and leafy cover, and try to avoid disturbing them during the day.  Like most treefrogs, they appreciate a shallow water bowl perhaps with floating logs for extra security.

Hygiene is vitally important for amphibians, so make sure that their enclosure and cage furniture are regularly cleaned with a reptile and amphibian safe disinfectant.
