Togo Starburst Tarantula

These old world spiders are a must have for most spider collections due to their impressive white and black/grey colouring. They are an arboreal species so will need to be housed in a tall enclosure with plenty of vertical decorations for them to make their webs, which will be spread densely around the enclosure, making for quite the display. Like all old world species, the Heteroscodra maculata, are known to be very defensive and quick to bite, so must be treated with respect and are therefore recommended for more experienced keepers only.

In the wild this species lives in forested areas so they require a higher humidity to thrive. We recommend a humidity of 70-80% for the Togo Starburst which can be achieved by misting the enclosure once or twice a week as required. Using a substrate of coco fibre is also useful for maintaining humidity, as well as creating a natural looking environment for the spider.  In captivity we feed the Togo Starburst on live insects such as crickets, locust or roaches for adults and fruit flies for smaller spiderlings.
