Corn Snakes are one of the most popular pet reptile species in the UK. This is because they have lovely natures, are easy to handle and very easy to keep. They are beautifully marked and are now being bred in many different colours and patterns.
We are working towards improving the welfare of every pet reptile, which is why our expectations are so much higher than those of some other retailers and breeders. You want a healthy, happy pet and we know that our corn snake habitats are a great way to achieve that! Please read our article on minimum standards (see the link in the main description below) to see why our habitats are the most effective on the market.
Our animals are only available for collection in store. Speak to our care team, or visit us in-store to purchase your new pet.
Please read about our minimum standards and why we use them – it’s really important!
Feed your corn snake one defrosted mouse or rat a week, no larger than the widest part of the body. Once they reach maturity they can be fed every other week, and can be offered small rats, chicks, and other species that are the appropriate size. Ensure that all frozen prey items are thoroughly defrosted in a fridge overnight, then brought up to room temperature before being offered to the snake. Prey can either be offered on tongs, or left in the vivarium for the snake to find.
Creating a suitable environment is critical for the well being of your snake.
A corn snake would benefit from a 120 x 60 x 60cm vivarium. Lots of hides should be provided for the snake to feel safe, as well as a moss filled hide to aid shedding, and a water bowl large enough for the snake to soak in if it feels like it. Make sure that waste is removed as soon as possible, and that the vivarium, decor, and water bowl are cleaned regularly with a reptile safe disinfectant.
Snow corn snakes are fine with other snakes so can live alone or with other snakes of similar size. The snake will require a hiding spots in the vivarium for it to feel secure. By having more than 3 in different areas, the snake will choose the one at the ideal temperature. A humid hide is also recommended for the snake when they are shedding their skin, as they are hollow hides with a damp moss inside.
Plastic plants are also good to use, as they offer privacy.
These snakes are albino so do not require bright lighting. These particular snakes require a temperature gradient of 25˚C to 30˚C (77˚F to 86˚F) during the day. You can achieve this habitat with a heat mat and basking light on one side of the vivarium to create a warmer end. It’s important that these are controlled by thermostats so the vivarium doesn’t become overheated. At night the temperature should drop to around 20˚C to 25˚C (68˚F to 77˚F).
Your snow corn snake should be fed one defrosted mouse weekly. You should not feed the snake a mouse bigger than the largest part of the snake.
The mice should be defrosted in a a fridge overnight should be fed to them at room temperature.
